Welcome to Elkhorn

A charming suburb that provides an old-town feel, countryside serenity, and access to comfortable amenities

Located on the far west corner of Douglas County, Elkhorn is a charming suburb in Omaha that was annexed as a city in 2007. It was founded in 1965 and named after the Elkhorn River, which is a part of its western border.

It grew from a small village and has a history that follows America's expansion via railroad construction and settlement. The extension of the Union Pacific Railroad to the area prompted the government to turn Elkhorn habitable in 1867. An increase in suburban migration in the 1960s caused tremendous town growth in a small city.

Modern Elkhorn proudly showcases its Old Western history with century-old architecture and traditional American design in the town center. Residents love living in Elkhorn for its peaceful countryside vibe, variety of dining and shopping options, and plentiful outdoor recreation opportunities.
